Firewalking
You might ask yourself, "Firewalking, why!?" And many have asked me that same question over the years. When I tell people about the history of firewalking they start to get intrigued and usually want to know more. "And you don't get burned?" is often one of the very first enquiries. "Well, most of the time you don't," is my honest reply, "but that is really not the point in firewalking". Then what is?

There is much to tell and yet, life has got a magic of its own that can only be grasped in the moment; in the experience of it. But let me start by giving you some idea at least.

Firewalking has has been practised for thousands of years in many cultures all over the world. From the Native American tribes in North America, to the Celts in Britain, the Vikings in Scandinavia, Christians in Spain & Bulgaria, the Romans in Italy, the Buddhists in Japan and Tibet, the South African tribes, to many tribes and people in South-East Asia. In many countries and cultures across our little planet people have gathered under the umbrella of a wide variety of belief structures to firewalk. Throughout the ages firewalking has been a part of the tapestry of human culture and in general it has always been practiced in the context of emotional, physical or spiritual healing and development.

Today the firewalk has captivated hundreds of thousands worldwide as a tool of empowerment. SUNDOOR The International Firewalking School is where thousands of leaders from around the world have learned to empower their workshops and seminars with the firewalk. I completed my certification in 1999 and became one of the first SUNDOOR Masters in 2000.

Before my journey with SUNDOOR and Peggy Dylan started, I studied Buddhism and seized the opportunity to walk on fire in Leiden, The Netherlands during the first ever complete Saito Goma (big fire ritual) outside of Japan with the Buddhist monks of the Daigoji Sanboin of Kyoto (1993). A year later I participated in a Saito Goma in Japan with the Shugenja (mountain ascetics from the Shugendo tradition) associated with the Okubo temple (Okuboji) on the island of Shikoku.

Those experiences have gifted me with an enlightening view of firewalking within a different culture and belief system and form the base on which subsequent years of firewalking have been build.

Firewalking, "The Secret"
The Firewalk teaches us to be fully in the present, to allow all our emotions and feelings to be the fuel behind our focussed intent and action so that we truly can create miraculous results in our lifes.

Firewalking is the most powerful metaphor for life that is available today, and learning to transform our fear and limiting beliefs into joy, love and effective action is but one of its many gifts.

If you're looking for a way to learn how to apply the principles of "the law of atraction", if you're willing to dive into your being and transform all those limiting beliefs that are holding you back to live the life you're yearning to live, and if you have the courage to dream and live life outside of the box, check the calendar of events and join one of the public Firewalking workshops!

Firewalking Theories
There are a great many theories about firewalking and apparently a great need amongst primarily its sceptics to try to explain this ancient phenomenon in the language of science. In general I have two responses to this; one of compassion and healthy disassociation, and one of mild frustration. The Leidenfrost effect, the laws of thermal conductivity, heat capacity theories, all rely on the old set of physics laws. Unfortunately there's not been any research from a quantum physics angle. That, I would find interesting. However, in my experience with firewalking - and life in general for that matter - none of the skeptics' theories hold up.

One of the oldest tribes on this planet, the K'ung from the Kalahari desert, have been firewalking since the dawn of time and view it this way:

'If our n/um [energy] is higher or equals the n/um [energy] of the fire, we can walk on the coals unharmed.'

Life is just far too interesting and magical to spend much time trying to fit all experiences into the one accepted box. But all you can really do is experience life yourself. And then most importantly: to enjoy your life's journey, wherever it takes you!

'To firewalk, or not to firewalk', isn't even the point. What matters is if you are willing and capable to give full expression to your soul's purpose, no matter the fears, the self-imposed limitations, the opposing cultural belief systems, or the possible rejection of your loved ones. The firewalk is one of the most powerful methods to learn just that. To transform a paralyzing fear into a focussed, loving action and so learning to create the life you've always yearned to live!

A life filled with joy, love, peace, goodness, compassion, harmony and complete fulfillment of your being is awaiting you. What are you waiting for!?
